How do I know what I can afford? What’s the best way to find out?

We finance a majority of vehicles that we sell at Wheel City Auto Finance Centers—we don’t go through third parties very often. Franchise dealers use third parties most often. The people who work at those dealerships aren’t too concerned if you over-extended. However, we are concerned. We will help you avoid that hassle.

Someone from our staff will sit down with you and do a debt-to-income ratio to help you figure out what you can afford along with paying your other bills. We make sure that you’re getting set up for success. Success is the long-term solution for what you and we have in mind.

In our case, we help you figure that out. We will help you figure out whether or not you can reasonably afford a $300 car payment. Knowing that fact helps narrow down what type of vehicle you’re looking at because it doesn’t do any good to look at a late model, four-wheel drive sport utility if the payment’s going to be $450 every month and you can’t or don’t want to make a $450-per-month payment.

We will help you figure all that out before we sell a vehicle. We also do the financing on the vehicle—we are the “bank.” If you come in with cash and just pay for a car outright, you don’t have to worry about that aspect. But if you want to finance it, need to sit down and do your budgeting to make sure that you can afford the payment and the insurance that goes along with it.

A lot of new and used car dealerships have lots of secondary finance sources--everybody has access to these sources. Wheel City Auto Finance Centers is unique because we do our own in-house financing.

In other words, if you’re going through an outside third-party financing source, they’re going to look only at your credit-worthiness and how much income you have. They’re not necessarily going to sit down and do a detailed budget and plan with you in order to make sure that you can afford it.

But we do that.

A dealership that uses a third-party finance source is not involved after the vehicle is sold.

We don’t work that way.

Because we “carry the paper” and do the financing ourselves, we want to make sure that you are set up for success—and that you can afford the vehicle you want.
